A. B. S. Safdar was a Bangladeshi politician and diplomat who served as the first Foreign Minister of Bangladesh. He was born on 1925 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Safdar was educated at the University of Dhaka and the London School of Economics. He was a member of the Awami League and was elected to the East Pakistan Provincial Assembly in 1954. He was appointed as the first Foreign Minister of Bangladesh in 1972. Safdar was a strong advocate of Bangladesh's independence and was instrumental in the country's recognition by the United Nations. He also served as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations. Safdar passed away in 2020 at the age of 95. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
