Abdellatif Ben Ammar is a Tunisian filmmaker and screenwriter. He is best known for his films The Battle of Algiers (1966), The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972), and The Last of the Mohicans (1992). He has also directed several television series, including The Return of the Musketeers (1989) and The Adventures of Tintin (1991). Ben Ammar was born in Tunis, French Protectorate of Tunisia, on 25 April 1943. He studied at the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques in Paris, and began his career as an assistant director in the early 1960s. In 1966, Ben Ammar directed his first feature film, The Battle of Algiers, which was a critical and commercial success. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 1972, Ben Ammar directed The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He also directed the television series The Return of the Musketeers (1989) and The Adventures of Tintin (1991). Ben Ammar has been married twice and has two children. He currently resides in Paris, France. As of 2021, he is 78 years old and has an estimated net worth of $10 million.
