Achhroo Ram Kapila is a Kenyan lawyer and former politician who was born on 25 August 1926. He is the son of a prominent lawyer and politician, Ram Prasad Kapila. He was educated at the University of Nairobi and the University of London, where he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree. He began his career as a lawyer in Kenya in the 1950s and was appointed to the Legislative Council in 1961. He was a member of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) and served as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs from 1964 to 1966. He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly which drafted the Constitution of Kenya in 1964. In 1966, he was appointed as the first Attorney General of Kenya and served in that position until 1969. He was also a member of the East African Court of Appeal from 1969 to 1972. He was a member of the International Court of Justice from 1972 to 1976 and was the first African to serve on the court. He was also a member of the International Law Commission from 1976 to 1980.
