Akitaro Daichi is a Japanese anime director, producer, and photography director. He is best known for directing the anime series Fruits Basket, Maison Ikkoku, and Kodocha. He has also directed several live-action films, including the critically acclaimed The Great Passage. Daichi was born on 13 January 1956 in Gunma, Japan. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1980. After graduation, he joined the animation studio Tatsunoko Production, where he worked as an animator and director. Daichi has directed several popular anime series, including Fruits Basket, Maison Ikkoku, and Kodocha. He has also directed several live-action films, including The Great Passage, which was nominated for the Japan Academy Prize for Picture of the Year in 2013. Daichi has won several awards for his work, including the Animation Kobe Award for Best Director in 2002 and the Tokyo Anime Award for Best Director in 2006.
