On February 9, 2006, Michaels was traded by Walt Disney Pictures to regain the copyright of Walt Disney's first major animation character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, from Universal. Michaels took no offense at this transaction noting, "Oswald is definitely worth more than a fourth-round draft choice. I'm going to be a trivia answer someday.".

Received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6633 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on October 13, 2004.
