Alberto Carrasquilla Barrera is a Colombian politician and economist who has served as the Minister of Finance and Public Credit of Colombia since 2017. He was born on 24 April 1959 in Bogotá, Colombia. He holds a degree in economics from the Universidad de los Andes and a master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago. He began his career in the public sector in the early 1980s, working in the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. He then served as the Director of the National Planning Department from 1991 to 1994. From 1994 to 1998, he was the Director of the National Budget Office. In 1998, he was appointed as the Minister of Finance and Public Credit, a position he held until 2002. He then served as the President of the Central Bank of Colombia from 2002 to 2007. In 2007, he was appointed as the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, a position he held until 2010. He then served as the President of the Colombian Banking Association from 2010 to 2017. In 2017, he was appointed as the Minister of Finance and Public Credit of Colombia, a position he still holds.
