Alex d'Arbeloff was born in Paris, France, on 21 December 1927. He was the son of Russian immigrants who had fled the Bolshevik Revolution. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and graduated in 1949 with a degree in chemical engineering. After graduating from MIT, d'Arbeloff worked for the Raytheon Company for two years before founding the Teradyne Corporation in 1960. He served as the company's president and CEO until his retirement in 1997. Under his leadership, Teradyne grew to become one of the world's leading manufacturers of automated test equipment. In addition to his business success, d'Arbeloff was a generous philanthropist. He and his wife, Brit, established the Alex and Brit d'Arbeloff Fund at MIT, which has provided more than $50 million in support for the university. He also served as a trustee of the MIT Corporation and was a member of the MIT Visiting Committee. D'Arbeloff passed away on December 21, 2019, at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife, Brit, and their three children.
