Alex Mayer is a British politician who has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the East of England since 2014. She is a member of the Labour Party. Mayer was born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, and was educated at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe, and the University of York, where she studied politics. She worked as a parliamentary researcher for the Labour Party from 2003 to 2005, and then as a policy adviser for the Labour Party from 2005 to 2007. Mayer was elected as an MEP for the East of England in 2014, and was re-elected in 2019. She is a member of the European Parliament's Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, and is a substitute member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. She is also a member of the European Parliament's delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. Mayer is a strong advocate for environmental protection, and has campaigned for the UK to remain in the European Union.
