He was also a key figure in the development of the Manchester Mark 1, the first stored-program computer. Glennie studied mathematics at the University of Manchester, graduating in 1947. He then joined Ferranti, where he worked on the development of the Ferranti Mark 1. He was also involved in the development of the Manchester Mark 1, which was the first stored-program computer. Glennie was awarded an OBE in 1975 for his services to computing. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the British Computer Society. Glennie is now 78 years old.
