He is best known for writing the screenplay for the 2001 film "Autumn in New York" starring Richard Gere and Winona Ryder. Burnett attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then went on to study at the American Film Institute, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in screenwriting. Burnett has written several screenplays, including "Autumn in New York," "Untraceable," "Feast of Love," and "Resurrecting the Champ." He has also directed two films, "Feast of Love" and "Resurrecting the Champ." In addition to his work in film, Burnett has written several novels, including "Undiscovered Gyrl," "The House of Secrets," and "The Glass Room." Allison's first screenplay to be produced was the kick-boxing prison drama, Bloodfist III: Forced to Fight (1992), which he co-wrote with Charles Mattera. He also wrote Gregory Hines' directorial debut, Bleeding Hearts (1994), and the film Red Meat (1997), which he directed, starring John Slattery, Jennifer Grey, and Lara Flynn Boyle that had its first world premiere on Sundance Channel.
