Alonso Ancira is a Mexican businessman and the former chairman of Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA), one of the largest steel companies in Latin America. He was born in Mexico City in 1956 and is the son of the late Don Eugenio Ancira Elizondo, who founded AHMSA in 1959. Alonso Ancira has been involved in the steel industry since the early 1980s, when he joined AHMSA as a sales manager. He was appointed president of the company in 1989 and chairman in 1997. Under his leadership, AHMSA grew to become one of the largest steel companies in Latin America, with operations in Mexico, the United States, and Europe. In addition to his business activities, Alonso Ancira is a philanthropist and has been involved in numerous charitable causes. He is a member of the board of directors of the Mexican Red Cross and the Mexican Business Council for Sustainable Development. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Mexican Institute of Social Security. Alonso Ancira is married to Maria Eugenia Elizondo and has three children.
