Alto Reed is an American musician, composer, and actor best known for his work as a saxophonist for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. He has also performed with other artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones. Reed was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1948. He began playing saxophone at the age of 12 and was soon performing with local bands. He attended Wayne State University and studied music theory and composition. In 1974, Reed joined Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and has been a member ever since. He has also performed with other artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones. Reed has released several solo albums, including Alto Reed's Detroit Soul (1995) and Alto Reed's Detroit Groove (1998). He has also composed music for films such as The Big Chill (1983) and The Color of Money (1986). Reed has been married twice and has two children. His net worth is estimated to be around $2 million.
