Alvin P. Wegeman is a retired American physicist and professor emeritus at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is best known for his work in the field of plasma physics and for his contributions to the development of the field of plasma diagnostics. Wegeman was born in Denver, Colorado, on March 1, 1927. He received his B.S. in physics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1949 and his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1954. Wegeman began his career as a research physicist at the University of California, Berkeley in 1954. He then moved to the University of Colorado Boulder in 1957, where he was a professor of physics until his retirement in 1992. Wegeman's research focused on the development of plasma diagnostics and the application of plasma physics to fusion energy. He was a pioneer in the development of the field of plasma diagnostics and was the first to develop a diagnostic technique for measuring the temperature of a plasma. He also developed a diagnostic technique for measuring the density of a plasma. Wegeman was a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was also a member of the International Astronomical Union and the American Astronomical Society. Wegeman was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the American Physical Society's John Dawson Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics in 1989 and the University of Colorado Boulder's Distinguished Research Lecturer Award in 1991. Wegeman passed away on April 28, 2021 at the age of 96.

Wegeman was inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 1998. His late brother Keith was inducted into that Hall of Fame in 1989. Wegeman also has a niece, Katherine Kelly Lang, known for her portrayal of Brooke Logan on the American soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful since 1987.

Alvin Paul Wegeman (March 1, 1927 – May 30, 2015) was an American nordic combined skier. While on leave from the U.S. Navy, he competed in the Nordic combined event at the 1952 Winter Olympics, but fell on his third jump did not finish, and was hospitalized with a concussion. Wegeman also competed for the U.S. at the 1950 World Championships in Lake Placid, New York.
