Abbas Torabian is a former Iranian football administrator who served as the president of the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) from 2002 to 2006. He was also the president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) from 2002 to 2006. Torabian was born in Tehran, Iran, and graduated from the University of Tehran with a degree in law. He began his career in football administration in the late 1970s, when he was appointed as the secretary-general of the FFIRI. He was later appointed as the president of the FFIRI in 2002, and held the position until 2006. During his tenure as the president of the FFIRI, Torabian was instrumental in the development of the Iranian football league system, and was also responsible for the introduction of the Iranian Premier League. He was also responsible for the introduction of the AFC Champions League, which is now one of the most prestigious club competitions in Asia. Torabian was also the president of the AFC from 2002 to 2006, and during his tenure, he was responsible for the introduction of the AFC Cup, which is now the second-tier club competition in Asia. He was also responsible for the introduction of the AFC President's Cup, which is now the third-tier club competition in Asia.
