He is currently 57 years old. Al-Mayhoub studied at the University of Benghazi, where he obtained a degree in economics in 1979. He then went on to pursue a master's degree in economics from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. Al-Mayhoub began his career in the Libyan government in the 1980s, serving as the head of the Libyan Investment Authority. He was appointed as the Prime Minister of Libya in March 2006, and served in that position until March 2009. Al-Mayhoub is currently the Libyan Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
