Abune Yacob was the fourth Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church. He was born in 1924 in the village of Adi-Quala, Eritrea. He was ordained as a priest in 1952 and was consecrated as a bishop in 1961. He was appointed as the fourth Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church in 1994. Abune Yacob was a strong advocate for the rights of the Eritrean people and was a vocal critic of the Ethiopian government. He was a strong supporter of the Eritrean independence movement and was instrumental in the establishment of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church as an independent entity. Abune Yacob passed away on 28 April, 2018 at the age of 94. He was buried in the village of Adi-Quala, Eritrea. Abune Yacob's net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
