Adam Nussbaum is an American jazz drummer and composer. He is best known for his work with the Pat Metheny Group, Steps Ahead, and the Dave Liebman Group. He has also worked with a variety of other jazz musicians, including John Scofield, Mike Stern, and John Abercrombie. Nussbaum was born in New York City and began playing drums at the age of nine. He attended the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and later studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Nussbaum has released several albums as a leader, including The Lead Belly Project (2005), The Four Bags (2006), and The Time Being (2008). He has also appeared on numerous albums as a sideman, including Pat Metheny's Offramp (1982) and Still Life (Talking) (1987), Steps Ahead's Modern Times (1985) and Magnetic (1986), and Dave Liebman's Lookout Farm (1973) and Pendulum (1974). Nussbaum has been nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Best Jazz Instrumental Performance for his work on The Lead Belly Project. Nussbaum has kept active in a wide variety of groups and as a freelance. His recording debut as leader was in 2018, with The Lead Belly Project. This quartet album was released by Sunnyside Records.

1987

He later joined the Eliane Elias/Randy Brecker Quartet, Gary Burton, and Toots Thielemans. In 1987 he began touring with Michael Brecker's band. During 1992 Nussbaum was part of the Carla Bley Big Band and the previous year John Abercrombie hired him to complete his organ trio.

1982

Nussbaum played with saxophonist Stan Getz in 1982–83. In 1983 he also became a member of the Gil Evans Orchestra, and toured Europe and Japan with it two years later.
