Aivars Lazdenieks is a Latvian politician and former Prime Minister of Latvia. He was born in Skrunda, Latvia, and graduated from the University of Latvia in 1977 with a degree in economics. He then worked as a lecturer at the University of Latvia and as a researcher at the Institute of Economics. In 1990, Lazdenieks was elected to the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia, and in 1993 he was appointed Prime Minister of Latvia. He served in this position until 1994, when he was replaced by Andris Skele. In 1995, Lazdenieks was elected to the Latvian Parliament, and he served as a member of the Parliament until 2002. He was also a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009. Lazdenieks is currently the chairman of the Latvian Social Democratic Workers' Party. He is also a member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences and a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. As of 2021, Aivars Lazdenieks's net worth is estimated to be roughly $1 million.
