Alan Best is a Canadian visual effects artist, director, and animator. He is best known for his work on films such as The Matrix, The Lord of the Rings, and The Chronicles of Narnia. He has also worked on television series such as Stargate SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica. Best was born in 1959 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He attended the Ontario College of Art and Design, where he studied animation and visual effects. After graduating, he began working in the visual effects industry, working on films such as The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings. Best has won several awards for his work, including an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for The Matrix in 2000, and a BAFTA Award for Best Special Visual Effects for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in 2003. Best is currently the president of the Visual Effects Society, and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He is also a member of the Directors Guild of Canada.
