Albert Serra is a Spanish filmmaker and screenwriter. He was born on 6 October 1978 in Banyoles, Spain. He is best known for his films Honor de Cavalleria (2006), Birdsong (2008), The Story of My Death (2013), and The Death of Louis XIV (2016). Serra studied at the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya in Barcelona, and graduated in 2002. He has since directed several short films, including The Great Vowel Shift (2003), The Three Little Pigs (2004), and The Three Little Pigs 2 (2005). Serra's first feature film, Honor de Cavalleria, was released in 2006. It was nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival. His second feature, Birdsong, was released in 2008 and won the FIPRESCI Prize at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Serra's third feature, The Story of My Death, was released in 2013 and won the Best Director Award at the Venice Film Festival. His fourth feature, The Death of Louis XIV, was released in 2016 and won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Serra has also written and directed several television series, including The Great Vowel Shift (2003), The Three Little Pigs (2004), and The Three Little Pigs 2 (2005).
