Alexandru Giura is a Romanian canoeist who was born on 11 February, 1957 in Romania. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a gold medal in the C-2 500 m event at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, and a bronze medal in the C-2 1000 m event at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Giura began his career in canoeing in 1975, and has since won numerous medals at the European Championships, World Championships, and World Cup events. He is a five-time World Champion, having won gold medals in the C-2 500 m event in 1979, 1981, and 1983, and in the C-2 1000 m event in 1981 and 1983. He also won a silver medal in the C-2 500 m event at the 1982 World Championships. Giura is currently the president of the Romanian Canoe Federation, and is a member of the International Canoe Federation Hall of Fame. He is married to fellow Olympic medalist, Maria Giura, and they have two children.
