Alfred Newman (cyclist) was a British professional cyclist who competed in the 1950s and 1960s. He was born on 3 August 1926 in Birmingham, England. Newman began his cycling career in 1949, when he joined the Birmingham Wheelers. He quickly established himself as a talented rider, winning the National Hill Climb Championship in 1951 and the National 25-mile Time Trial Championship in 1952. He also competed in the Tour of Britain in 1953 and 1954, and the Tour de France in 1955. In 1956, Newman joined the British professional team, the Hercules-Grimaldi team, and went on to win the British National Road Race Championship in 1957. He also competed in the Tour de France in 1957 and 1958, and the Giro d'Italia in 1959. Newman retired from professional cycling in 1960, and went on to become a successful coach and manager. He was the manager of the British National Team from 1965 to 1967, and the manager of the British Olympic Team in 1968. Newman died on 28 April 2021, at the age of 97. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. At the time of his death, Newman was estimated to have a net worth of around $1 million. He earned most of his wealth through his successful career as a professional cyclist and coach.
