Aloys Martin Kunc was a French composer and conductor who was active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for his work in the field of film music, having composed the scores for over 100 films. He was also a prolific composer of operas, ballets, and orchestral works. Kunc was born in Cintegabelle, Haute-Garonne, France, on 1 January 1832. He studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he won the Prix de Rome in 1858. He then went on to become a conductor at the Théâtre de l'Opéra-Comique in Paris. Kunc composed the scores for over 100 films, including the silent films La Vie de Bohème (1915), La Terre (1921), and La Chute de la Maison Usher (1928). He also composed the music for the first French sound film, Le Million (1931). Kunc's other works include the operas La Fiancée du Roi (1890), La Reine des Fées (1893), and La Belle au Bois Dormant (1902); the ballets La Fée Carabosse (1890) and La Fée Printemps (1902); and the orchestral works La Fête des Fleurs (1890) and La Fête des Roses (1902). Kunc died in Paris on 15 April 1933.
