Anne Gust Brown is an American business executive and the wife of former California Governor Jerry Brown. She is the former executive vice president of Gap Inc. and was the chief administrative officer of the company from 2002 to 2005. She is currently the chair of the California Board of Equalization. Anne Gust Brown was born on March 15, 1958 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1980 with a degree in political science. She then attended the University of Michigan Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1983. Anne Gust Brown began her career as a corporate attorney at the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in San Francisco. She then joined Gap Inc. in 1995 as the company's general counsel. She was promoted to executive vice president in 2000 and served as the company's chief administrative officer from 2002 to 2005. In 2006, Anne Gust Brown left Gap Inc. to become the chief of staff for her husband, then-California Governor Jerry Brown. She served in this role until 2011.
