He has also worked on television shows such as The Avengers (1961-1969), The Sweeney (1975-1978), and Minder (1979-1994). Arnell has been married twice, first to actress and singer Shirley Anne Field, and then to actress and singer Julie Covington. He has two children, a son and a daughter. Arnell has been nominated for two BAFTA Awards for his work on The Sweeney and Minder. He has also been awarded the British Academy Television Craft Award for Best Casting in a Drama Series for his work on Minder.
