Anthony Perkins was an American actor best known for his role as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror film Psycho. He was born on April 4, 1932 in Manhattan, New York City, to Janet Esselstyn (Rane) and Osgood Perkins, an actor of both stage and film.
Perkins began his acting career in 1954, appearing in the Broadway production of Picnic. He made his film debut in 1957 in Fear Strikes Out. He went on to appear in a number of films, including The Matchmaker (1958), Goodbye Again (1961), Tall Story (1960), Pretty Poison (1968), and Murder on the Orient Express (1974).
In 1960, Perkins starred in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, a role that would become his most iconic. He reprised the role in three sequels, Psycho II (1983), Psycho III (1986), and Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990).
Perkins was married twice, first to actress Berry Berenson from 1973 until his death in 1992. He had two sons with Berenson, actor Oz Perkins and musician Elvis Perkins.
Perkins died on September 12, 1992, at the age of 60, from complications of AIDS. His net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around $2 million.

On September 11, 2001, his widow and mother of his two sons, Berry Berenson was one of the 58 victims on AA-11 out of Boston that terrorists crashed.

During 1990, he got a blood sample taken due to a palsy on the side of his face. The "National Enquirer" illegally had Tony's blood sample tested for the AIDS virus, and found out that it was positive. Later that year, the "National Enquirer" wrote a story about his battle with AIDS, but the ironic thing was that he only found out that he was HIV positive from this article. He suspected that he probably was, but he never checked for it before the article was written.
