Antony Balch was an English filmmaker, actor, and writer. He was born in London, England, on 10 September 1937. He was best known for his collaborations with William S. Burroughs, including the short film Towers Open Fire (1963) and the feature-length film Cut-Ups (1966). He also directed the feature-length film The Pleasure Girls (1965). Balch began his career as an actor, appearing in several British films in the 1950s and 1960s. He then moved into directing, making several short films and the feature-length The Pleasure Girls. He also wrote and directed the short film Towers Open Fire, which was a collaboration with William S. Burroughs. In 1966, Balch and Burroughs collaborated on the feature-length film Cut-Ups. The film was a critical success, and was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Balch continued to work in film throughout the 1970s and 1980s, directing several documentaries and short films. He also wrote and directed the feature-length film The Final Programme (1973). Balch died in London on 11 April 2002, aged 64.
