Wicklund was born in 1926 in Norway and immigrated to the United States in 1948. He attended the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in business administration. After college, he worked in the banking industry in Minneapolis before moving to New York City in the early 1960s. In New York, Wicklund founded Wicklund Investment Group, which has since become one of the largest private equity firms in the United States. He has also served as a director of several public companies, including the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange, and the Nasdaq Stock Market. Wicklund is also the founder and chairman of the Wicklund Foundation, which supports education, health, and the environment.
