Arsène Wenger is a French football manager and former player. He is the manager of the English Premier League club Arsenal, having been appointed in 1996. He is the longest-serving manager in the history of the club, and one of the most successful in English football history. Wenger was born in Strasbourg, France, on 22 October 1948. He began his playing career at the age of 17 with the semi-professional club Mutzig. He then moved to RC Strasbourg, where he made his professional debut in 1978. He also played for Cannes and Nancy before retiring in 1981. Wenger began his managerial career in 1984 with Nancy, before moving to AS Monaco in 1987. He won the French league title with Monaco in 1988, and then moved to Japan to manage Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1995. He joined Arsenal in 1996, and has since won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, and seven Community Shields. Wenger is known for his attacking style of play, and his ability to develop young players. He has been awarded several honors, including the Légion d'honneur in 2002, and the Order of the British Empire in 2003. He was also named FIFA World Coach of the Year in 1998.
