Arthur Mauro was a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. He was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and was the son of Italian immigrants. He attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a degree in commerce. Mauro began his career in the lumber industry, eventually becoming the president of the family-owned business, Mauro Lumber. He was also a director of the Bank of Montreal and the Bank of Nova Scotia. Mauro was a generous philanthropist, donating to numerous charities and organizations, including the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute, and the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. He was also a major donor to the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa. Mauro was awarded the Order of Canada in 2004 for his philanthropic work. He passed away in 2021 at the age of 96.
