Asanterabi Zephaniah Nsilo Swai was born in Moshi, Tanzania Kilimanjaro on 20 April, 1925. He is a politician and a member of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party. He was the first Prime Minister of Tanzania from 1977 to 1980. He was also the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1977 to 1980. Swai was educated at the University of Dar es Salaam, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of London. Swai has held various positions in the Tanzanian government, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Education, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, and Minister of Home Affairs. He was also the Chairman of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party from 1977 to 1980. Swai is married to Mary Swai and has four children. He is 69 years old.
