Athanase Bala was a Cameroonian politician and diplomat who served as the Prime Minister of Cameroon from 1982 to 1983. He was born in the village of Nkolbisson, near Yaoundé, in the Centre Region of Cameroon. Bala studied at the University of Yaoundé and the University of Paris, where he obtained a doctorate in law. He was a professor of law at the University of Yaoundé and a member of the Cameroonian Bar Association. Bala was appointed Prime Minister of Cameroon in 1982, and served until 1983. He was also a member of the Central Committee of the Cameroonian People's Democratic Movement (CPDM). Bala died on 28 April 2020, at the age of 92.
