Bakhytzhan Zhumagulov is a Kazakh politician and former Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. He was born on 18 August 1953 in Almaty Province, Kazakhstan. He graduated from the Kazakh State University in 1975 with a degree in economics. He began his career in the Soviet Union as a lecturer at the Kazakh State University in 1975. He then served as the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Committee of the Kazakh SSR from 1985 to 1989. In 1989, he was appointed as the Chairman of the State Planning Committee of the Kazakh SSR. In 1991, he was appointed as the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and served in that position until 1994. During his tenure, he was responsible for the implementation of economic reforms in the country. He also served as the Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan from 1994 to 1997. In 1997, he was appointed as the Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan and served in that position until 1999. He then served as the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Kazakhstan from 1999 to 2003. In 2003, he was appointed as the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan for the second time and served in that position until 2006. During his tenure, he was responsible for the implementation of economic reforms in the country. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. He is also a member of the Senate of Kazakhstan. He has been awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, Order of the Red Banner of Labour, and Order of the Golden Eagle.
