During her time at the Review, she was responsible for publishing works by authors such as Susan Sontag, Norman Mailer, and Joan Didion. In addition to her work at the Review, Epstein has also served as an editor for several other publications, including The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, and The Nation. She has also written several books, including The Haunted Wood: Soviet Espionage in America (1999) and Political Protest and Cultural Revolution: Nonviolent Direct Action in the 1970s and 1980s (1991).
