McClintock has written and illustrated over twenty books, including the Caldecott Honor book The House in the Night, which was a New York Times Best Illustrated Book of the Year. Her other books include The Princess and the Pea, The Secret Garden, and The Little Red Hen. McClintock has won numerous awards for her work, including the Caldecott Honor, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, the Christopher Award, and the Society of Illustrators Gold Medal.
