Barry Andrews is a British musician, songwriter, and producer. He is best known as the keyboardist and founding member of the new wave band XTC. He was born in London, England, and grew up in Swindon, Wiltshire. Andrews began playing music at an early age, learning the piano and guitar. He attended the Swindon College of Art and Design, where he studied graphic design. After college, he joined the band XTC in 1976. He wrote and performed on the band's first three albums, White Music, Go 2, and Drums and Wires. In 1980, Andrews left XTC to pursue a solo career. He released his debut solo album, Barry Andrews in Mono, in 1981. He followed this with the albums The Big Picture in 1983 and The Real Animal in 1988. In the 1990s, Andrews returned to XTC, playing on the albums Nonsuch and Apple Venus Volume 1. He also worked as a producer and arranger for other artists, including The The, The Waterboys, and The Divine Comedy. Andrews is currently living in London. He is married and has two children. He continues to write and record music, and is a member of the band Shriekback.

Latterly, Shriekback has essentially become a solo project under which Andrews has released several albums, most recently Life in the Loading Bay (2010), on the Malicious Damage record label.

1980

During 1980, he was part of Robert Fripp´s The League of Gentlemen, together with Sara Lee. He also had his own group called ¨Restaurant for Dogs¨. In 1981, he formed Shriekback with former Gang of Four bassist Dave Allen. Coincidentally, Sara Lee later joined Gang of Four as bassist.

His most notable solo track was "Win a Night Out with a Well-Known Paranoiac", which received airplay on the Anne Nightingale request show on BBC Radio 1 during the mid-1980s. The A-side of this single was "Rossmore Road", named after a street in Marylebone, London.

In the late 1980s, he was a member of the band Illuminati, and later played with The Refugees and 7even.

1976

Andrews joined the group formed by Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding about the same time they changed their name to XTC in 1976. He left XTC in 1978, after two albums with the band, and embarked on a solo career.

Barry Andrews (born 12 September 1956) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and keyboardist, formerly of the bands XTC and League of Gentlemen, who co-founded Shriekback. He has collaborated with Brian Eno on several projects, most recently guesting on keyboards for the 2005 album Another Day on Earth. Andrews also played on the 1980 Iggy Pop album Soldier with David Bowie, Ivan Kral, Glen Matlock and Klaus Kruger.
