Béla Köpeczi was a Hungarian historian, professor, and politician. He was born in Nagyenyed, Hungary, on 16 September 1921. He studied at the University of Budapest and received his doctorate in history in 1950. He was a professor at the University of Szeged from 1956 to 1990. Köpeczi was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian Academy of Arts. He was also a member of the Hungarian Parliament from 1990 to 1994. He was a member of the Hungarian Democratic Forum and the Hungarian Socialist Party. Köpeczi was a prolific author, writing numerous books and articles on Hungarian history. He was also a noted public speaker, giving lectures on Hungarian history and culture. Köpeczi died on 28 April 2021 at the age of 99.
