Would tease Sara Karloff by telling her that she was older than him. She believed him, until she saw a photo of him as a baby standing between her father's legs, who was in full Frankenstein costume, on the set of Son of Frankenstein (1939). Sara was born during its filming.

Surprisingly, he and his daughter did not keep Bela's original Dracula (1931) cape in the family, for her future generations to come. Instead, the Lugosis generously donated it to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, because they felt "it should not be hidden from the world". This will allow future generations of innumerable fans to view it---when it is finally put on display. In an article in the Hollywood reporter, Lynne Lugosi---Bela's grand-daughter---explained that they deliberately put a price so high as starting bid (over a million dollars) when they auctioned it off, because subconsciously they "did not want to part with it", and were relieved when it came back to them---unsold. As of February 2020, Bela's world-famous wool and silk cape is undergoing minor repairs---mainly to the torn lining. Son and grand-daughter hope it will help carry Bela's legacy forward, as it becomes part of an exclusive collection of priceless Golden Age of Hollywood movie star props and artifacts, where it is well-cared for.

His father, Bela Lugosi refused to compromise his integrity---unlike so many before him---and categorically declined indecent producers' proposals. Because of that, Lugosi would soon descend into obscurity, in favor of more amenable actors---this, despite being the most talented of all horror actors of the 1930s.
