Berthold Bartosch was a Czech-Austrian filmmaker and animator. He is best known for his work on the 1933 film L'Idee, which he co-directed with Hans Richter. He was also a pioneer in the field of stop-motion animation, and his work was influential in the development of the genre. Bartosch was born in Polaum, Bohemia, in 1893. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and later worked as a set designer for the Vienna State Opera. In the 1920s, he began experimenting with animation, and in 1929 he released his first film, The Idea. The film was a critical success, and it established Bartosch as a major figure in the world of animation. Bartosch continued to work in animation throughout the 1930s, and in 1933 he released his most famous film, L'Idee. The film was a collaboration with Hans Richter, and it was a major influence on the development of stop-motion animation. Bartosch's later work included the animated feature film The King and the Mockingbird (1952), which he co-directed with Paul Grimault. He also worked on a number of other animated films, including The Little Prince (1956) and The Magic Horse (1957). Bartosch died in Vienna in 1965. He was 71 years old.
