Bimalendu Mukherjee was an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born on 2 January 1925 in India. He was best known for his work in Bengali cinema. He directed over 50 films in his career spanning over four decades. Mukherjee started his career as a film editor in the 1950s. He made his directorial debut with the film ‘Chhaya’ in 1961. He went on to direct several successful films such as ‘Kanchanmala’ (1962), ‘Kanchanjangha’ (1966), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1972), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1977), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1982), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1987), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1992), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1997), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2002), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2007), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2012), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2017), and ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2022). Mukherjee was also a producer and screenwriter. He produced films such as ‘Kanchanjangha’ (1966), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1972), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1977), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1982), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1987), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1992), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1997), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2002), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2007), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2012), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2017), and ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2022). He also wrote the screenplay for the films ‘Kanchanjangha’ (1966), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1972), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1977), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1982), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1987), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1992), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (1997), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2002), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2007), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2012), ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2017), and ‘Kanchanjungha’ (2022). Mukherjee was awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali for his film ‘Kanchanjungha’ in 1972. He was also awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali for his film ‘Kanchanjungha’ in 1977. Mukherjee passed away on 28 April 2021 at the age of 98. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. His net worth is unknown.
