Bob Avian is an American choreographer, director, and producer. He is best known for his work on the Broadway musicals A Chorus Line and Dreamgirls. He has won two Tony Awards for his choreography and has been nominated for five more. Avian was born in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA, on December 26, 1937. He attended the High School of Performing Arts in New York City and then studied at the Juilliard School. Avian began his career as a dancer in the Broadway musicals West Side Story and Gypsy. He then moved into choreography, working on the musicals Promises, Promises and Company. He won his first Tony Award for his choreography for A Chorus Line in 1975. He was nominated for four more Tony Awards for his choreography for Dreamgirls, The Tap Dance Kid, Miss Saigon, and Fosse. Avian has also directed and produced several Broadway shows, including the revival of A Chorus Line in 2006. He has also directed and choreographed the musicals The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Goodbye Girl, and The Boy from Oz. Avian has been married to his wife, actress and singer Donna McKechnie, since 1982. He has no children. As of 2021, Bob Avian's net worth is estimated to be around $2 million.
