Bonka Dimova is a Bulgarian sprinter who was born on 15 March, 1956 in Bulgaria. She is best known for her success in the 400m sprint, having won the gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. She also won a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at the same Olympics. Dimova began her career as a sprinter in the late 1970s, competing in the 400m and 4x400m relay. She won her first international medal in 1979, a bronze in the 4x400m relay at the European Championships in Prague. She went on to win the gold medal in the 400m at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, setting a new Olympic record of 49.83 seconds. She also won a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at the same Olympics. Dimova continued to compete in the 400m and 4x400m relay until the mid-1980s, winning a silver medal in the 400m at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki. She retired from competitive athletics in 1986. Dimova is married and has two children. She currently works as a coach and is a member of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee.
