Carlos Alejandro Campo is an American university president and academic administrator. He is currently the president of Florida International University (FIU). He was appointed to the position in August 2019. Campo was born in Miami Beach, Florida, and attended Miami Beach Senior High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Florida International University in 1980, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Miami in 1982. He then earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Florida in 1988. Campo began his career in higher education as an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida in 1988. He then served as the associate vice president for academic affairs at the University of South Florida from 1994 to 1998. From 1998 to 2002, he was the vice president for academic affairs at the University of Central Florida. In 2002, Campo was appointed the president of the University of North Florida, a position he held until 2019. During his tenure, he oversaw the university's growth and development, including the construction of a new student union and the expansion of the university's academic programs. Campo was appointed the president of Florida International University in August 2019. He is the first Cuban-American to serve as president of the university.
