Short missed the first 10 games of the 2018 NWSL season after sustaining and ankle injury while playing for the USWNT in the 2018 SheBelieves Cup.

2017

In 2017 Short appeared in 22 regular season games for the Red Stars. She was named to the NWSL Team of the Month for May, June and July. Short was named to the 2017 NWSL Best XI.

2016

Short started every match of the 2016 season for the Red Stars, scoring 2 goals and making the Second XI for the best players of the league season.

Short received her first international call up to the senior team on October 6, 2016. Casey Short made her debut for the United States women's national soccer team on October 19, 2016 playing all 90 minutes against Switzerland women's national football team, and 4 days later played another 90 minutes against Switzerland in the same series of friendly matches.

2013

Due to two season-ending injuries Short did not play in National Women's Soccer League during the league's initial two seasons despite being selected by the Boston Breakers as the fifth overall pick at the 2013 NWSL College Draft. Short played successfully for Avaldsnes IL during 2015 in the Norwegian Toppserien league and was honored as one of the Top 11 in Norwegian Toppserien league at the 2015 NISO Awards.

Short was the fifth overall pick at the 2013 NWSL College Draft by the Boston Breakers but did not compete due to knee injury, and was acquired by the Chicago Red Stars after the 2013 NWSL season. Once again, in 2014 Short suffered another season-ending injury before the season even started. After a very successful stint in 2015 with Avaldsnes in Norway, Chicago Red Stars signed Short to compete in 2016 NWSL season.

2010

Casey Short represented the United States in several youth national teams: under-16, under-17, under-20 and under-23. Short scored a few goals representing the U.S. at various youth national levels. Casey Short competed with the United States under-20 women's national soccer team at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany.
