Songwriter ("It's a Lonesome Old Town"), composer, pianist and conductor, educated at business college and a private music student of his father and John Adam Hugo. At 14, he was a pianist in a vaudeville orchestra, and he recorded player-piano rolls. Between 1924 and 1929 he accompanied and was music director for the Duncan Sisters, including their film "It's a Great Life", and he came to Hollywood in 1930 to work in films as a pianist, music supervisor and composer.
