Charles R. Kesler is an American academic and political commentator. He is the editor of the Claremont Review of Books and a professor of government at Claremont McKenna College. He is the author of several books, including I Am the Change: Barack Obama and the Crisis of Liberalism and The Federalist Papers: A Reader. Kesler was born in 1956 in New York City. He received his B.A. from Columbia University in 1978 and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1985. Kesler is married to the former Mary Ellen O'Connell, and they have two children. Kesler is a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute and a contributing editor to National Review. He is a frequent contributor to the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and other publications. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Philadelphia Society. Kesler was a delegate to the International Youth Year Conference in Jamaica in 1985. He was director of the Henry Salvatori Center for the Study of Individual Freedom in the Modern World from 1989 to 2008. At Claremont, he is a senior fellow of the conservative Claremont Institute, and teaches at their Publius Fellows Program, a summer institute. Additionally, he is the editor of the Claremont Review of Books, a quarterly political magazine. He was the Director of Henry Salvatori Center at Claremont McKenna College.
