Charlotte Zolotow was an American children's book author and editor. She wrote more than 90 books, including the classic Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present, and edited many more. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and grew up in New York City. She attended Hunter College and the University of Wisconsin, where she earned a master's degree in English. Zolotow began her career as an editor at Harper & Brothers in 1941. She worked there for more than 30 years, editing books by authors such as Margaret Wise Brown, Ruth Krauss, and Maurice Sendak. She also wrote her own books, many of which were illustrated by her husband, William Pene du Bois. Zolotow's books often focus on the emotions of children, and she was praised for her ability to capture the feelings of young readers. She won numerous awards for her work, including the Regina Medal from the Catholic Library Association and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award from the American Library Association. Charlotte Zolotow died in 2013 at the age of 97.
