Chris Barber is a British jazz musician and bandleader. He is best known as a trombonist and for leading the Chris Barber Band since the 1950s. He has also played with many other bands, including the Ken Colyer Jazzmen, the Monty Sunshine Band, and the New Orleans Jazz Band. Barber was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, and began playing the trombone at the age of 16. He studied music at the Guildhall School of Music in London, and in 1949 he joined Ken Colyer's Jazzmen. He left the band in 1951 to form his own band, the Chris Barber Jazz Band. The band has released numerous albums over the years, and has toured extensively throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada. Barber has also collaborated with many other musicians, including B.B. King, Dizzy Gillespie, and Van Morrison. In addition to his musical career, Barber has also acted in several films, including The Italian Job (1969) and The Long Good Friday (1980). He has also appeared on television shows such as Top of the Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test. Barber was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2006 for his services to music. He is currently 91 years old.
