Johnson grew up with four siblings, Woody Johnson, Keith Johnson, Billy Johnson, and Elizabeth "Libet" Johnson, in affluent areas of northern New Jersey. In 1975, Keith died of a cocaine overdose, and Billy died in a motorcycle accident.
