Connie Wanek is an American poet and author. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and grew up in the small town of Holcombe, Wisconsin. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master of Arts degree in Creative Writing. Wanek has published four collections of poetry, including The Uneaten Carrots of Atonement (University of Wisconsin Press, 2002), which won the Brittingham Prize in Poetry. Her other collections include The River of Lost Voices: Stories from Guatemala (University of Wisconsin Press, 2006), which won the 2007 Minnesota Book Award for Poetry, and The Love That Moves Me (University of Wisconsin Press, 2011). Wanek has also published a novel, The Smallest Muscle in the Human Body (University of Wisconsin Press, 2009). She has received numerous awards for her work, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a Loft-McKnight Award of Distinction in Poetry, and a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship.
